PCC Statement
re. Pott Shrigley School

PCC Statement regarding the proposal to amalgamate the Federation of Pott Shrigley and Bollington St. John's C of E Primary Schools on to a single site at Bollington St.John's School

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Christopher's Church, Pott Shrigley is strongly in favour of Pott Shrigley Church School continuing to operate on its present site with a secure, long-term future. If a solution to the current challenges facing the school can be found which is sustainable and beneficial to the educational and spiritual welfare of the children the PCC would support it. We see the restoration of early years' provision in line with modern requirements on the Pott Shrigley site as crucial to this and hope that a means can be found to provide this.

St Christopher's Church has a long history of involvement with the school (524 years). Both institutions are an integral part of our village life: school contributes regularly to worship in church and church contributes regularly to religious education in school. Although we would continue to support an amalgamated school in Bollington our strong preference would be for a church school in our village without which we believe we would be so much poorer.

We pray for an amicable solution to the problem, bearing in mind that the welfare and education of the children are foremost. We recognise that this is a challenging and distressing time for the children, their parents and the school staff and governors, and continue to pray for them. May the Lord grant wisdom to all involved.
